Buying guide · Prices in SGD, checked 29 Oct 2026
What is the best folding bike in Singapore?
If you're on a tight budget, the Ethereal Cruise ($349–$379) is a simple 20-inch bi-fold with disc brakes. For MRT commuting on a mid-range budget, the Java Neo 3 16" (from $699, approx. 9.6 kg without pedals) is the most compact pick in this guide. If you want lighter or faster, look at the Java Neo 16 Full Carbon ($1,398, approx. 8.7 kg) or the Ethereal APEX 2 ($1,799, 20-inch 451 wheels, 12-speed wireless shifting).
We get asked "which foldie should I buy?" almost every day at our Woodlands showroom. The honest answer is that it depends on your budget, how often you carry the bike, and where you ride. This guide only uses the specs listed on our own product pages. Prices are in SGD and were correct on 29 October 2026. We've only included models that were available to order online when we wrote this. Where a spec isn't listed on the product page, we've left it out instead of guessing. Browse all folding bikes.
Weights and sizes are approximate and come from each product page. Some brands weigh their bikes without pedals, so a difference of a few hundred grams between brands isn't a like-for-like comparison. Swipe sideways to see the full table on mobile.

Best for: first-time folding bike owners, relaxed PCN rides, and short trips to the MRT or market.
The Ethereal Cruise costs $349, or $379 for the Chameleon colours.
It's a 20-inch bi-fold with an aluminium alloy T6 frame and a Shimano Tourney 7-speed drivetrain (12–32T cassette).
It has front and rear mechanical disc brakes, so it stops more reliably in the rain than rim brakes do.
It weighs approx. 12.3 kg and folds to 71 × 33 × 67 cm.
Rider height is listed as approx. 135–185 cm, with a max load of approx. 120 kg.
Honest take: It's the heaviest bike in this guide. That doesn't matter much for rolling to the void deck, but you'll feel it if you carry it up stairs every day. Ownership support is strong for the price: lifetime frame warranty, 6 months on parts, and free general servicing for life.
Best for: riders who want a trifold with hydraulic brakes but don't need higher-spec parts.
The Java Neo 3 ECO has a full aluminium frame and fork, full hydraulic disc brakes, and a Shimano 7-speed drivetrain (13–34T freewheel, 48T chainring).
It weighs approx. 11.3 kg without pedals.
Its folded size isn't listed on the product page, so come by the showroom if you want to measure it.
Best for: MRT and bus commuters, people who keep their bike at the office, and anyone short on storage space.
The Java Neo 3 16" starts at $699 (alloy fork) and goes up to $828 depending on the carbon fork edition and colour.
It has a 6061-T6 aluminium frame with internal cabling, Shimano 9-speed gears, flat-mount hydraulic disc brakes, a rear shock absorber, and 16 × 1.35 (349) tyres.
It weighs approx. 9.6 kg without pedals and folds to about 65 × 35 × 60 cm, the smallest listed fold in this guide.
Max load is 100 kg and the listed rider height is 135–185 cm.
Java Neo warranty and servicing: The Neo 3 16" and 20" product pages list a 1-year frame warranty and 6 months on parts. We're the official Singapore dealer, and every Java Neo bought from us also comes with 12 months of free in-house general servicing.
Best for: people who carry their bike a lot and want it as light as possible, plus wireless shifting.
Both Full Carbon models have a full carbon fibre trifold frame, plus a carbon fork, handlebar and seatpost.
They come with WheelTop EDS 12-speed wireless shifting (11–40T), DECA full hydraulic disc brakes and a Hollowtech 50T crankset.
Java Neo 16 Full Carbon, $1,398: 16" (349) wheels, approx. 8.7 kg, folds to approx. 67 × 32 × 58 cm.
It's the lightest bike in this guide.
Honest take: Max load is 90 kg on both, lower than the aluminium bikes here. If you're near that limit, look at the A20 (130 kg) or the APEX 2 (120 kg) instead. Both come with 12 months of local warranty support and 12 months of unlimited general servicing.

Buyer's checklist
How to choose a folding bike in Singapore
1. Weight: how often will you carry it?
If you'll mostly ride from home and fold the bike once in a while, the extra kilos won't bother you much. If you'll carry it through MRT stations, up overhead bridges or onto buses most days, every kilo counts. The bikes in this guide range from approx. 8.7 kg (Java Neo 16 Full Carbon) to 12.3 kg (Ethereal Cruise).
2. Folded size: where will it live?
Think about your office desk, your car boot and the corner of your HDB flat. The smallest listed fold here is the Java Neo 3 16" at about 65 × 35 × 60 cm. The APEX 2 bi-fold is the longest at 78 × 35 × 67 cm.

3. 16-inch or 20-inch wheels?
16-inch (349) bikes fold smaller and are usually lighter, which suits carry-heavy commutes. 20-inch bikes roll over bumps and expansion joints more smoothly, so they're better for longer PCN rides. If you're not sure, test ride both sizes back to back. You'll feel the difference within a few minutes.
4. 349 vs 406 vs 451: what the numbers mean
These numbers are the rim's bead-seat diameter in millimetres. 349 is the 16-inch size. 406 is the common 20-inch size, used on the Cruise, Neo 3 20", Neo 20 Carbon and A20, and it has the widest choice of tyres. 451 is a larger, narrower 20-inch size, used on the APEX 2, that gives a faster, road-bike-like feel. The two 20-inch sizes aren't interchangeable, so check before you buy tyres or wheels.
5. Bi-fold or trifold?
A bi-fold, like the Cruise or APEX 2, folds in half at the frame and handlepost. It's quick to fold and has fewer moving parts, but the fold is bigger. A trifold, like the Java Neo or A20, also folds the rear triangle under, giving a more compact package for public transport and small spaces, though folding takes a few more steps.
6. Brakes, gears and after-sales support
Singapore rain is a good reason to pick disc brakes. Hydraulic discs need less hand effort than mechanical ones. As for gears, 7 speeds is enough for flat towns. 9–12 speeds help on longer routes and with bridges and slopes. Also compare warranty and servicing, not just price. It's the part of owning a bike most people forget about until something needs fixing. See our bicycle servicing.
LTA rules
Singapore rules for taking a folding bike on the MRT and bus
Max folded size120 cm × 70 cm × 40 cm
According to the Land Transport Authority (LTA), folded bicycles must not exceed 120 cm × 70 cm × 40 cm to travel on trains and buses; they are allowed at all hours as long as you follow these rules:
When folded, the bike must not exceed 120 cm × 70 cm × 40 cm.
Keep it folded at all times in MRT/LRT stations, bus interchanges and terminals, and on board. Don't ride it inside stations. Push or carry it instead.
Wrap the wheels if they're dirty or wet, and cover or retract protruding parts such as handlebars and pedals.
Only one foldable bicycle is allowed on a bus at a time. It isn't allowed on the upper deck or the stairs. Under the bus Conditions of Carriage, the folded bike must also be kept with its longest side vertical.
LTA's guidelines suggest using the first or last train car and the wide fare gates where available, and not blocking aisles or doors.
Every bike in this guide with a published folded size is within 120 × 70 × 40 cm, as long as you orient it correctly. Still, measure your own setup if you've added racks, extenders or bigger tyres.
What is the best budget folding bike in Singapore?
From our in-stock range, the Ethereal Cruise ($349–$379) is the lowest-cost pick, with a 20-inch bi-fold, Shimano 7-speed gears and mechanical disc brakes. If you want a trifold with hydraulic brakes, the Java Neo 3 ECO costs $499.
Can I bring a folding bike on the MRT in Singapore?
Yes, at all hours. LTA requires the bike to be folded and no larger than 120 × 70 × 40 cm. Keep it folded in stations and on board, wrap dirty or wet wheels, and don't ride it inside the station.
Which folding bike here is the lightest?
The Java Neo 16 Full Carbon is listed at approx. 8.7 kg, followed by the Java Neo 20 Full Carbon at approx. 9 kg and the Java Neo 3 16" at approx. 9.6 kg without pedals.
Should I get a 16-inch or 20-inch folding bike?
Choose 16-inch if you carry the bike often and need the smallest fold. Choose 20-inch if you ride longer distances and want a smoother, more stable ride. A test ride is the quickest way to decide.
Is a bi-fold or trifold better for commuting?
A trifold usually gives a more compact package for MRT, bus and office storage. A bi-fold is quicker to fold and simpler, but its fold is bigger.
What warranty do these folding bikes come with?
Ethereal bikes in this guide come with a lifetime frame warranty and free lifetime general servicing from The Bike Atrium. Parts coverage varies by model. Java Neo bikes come with local warranty support and 12 months of free general servicing from us as the official dealer. Exact terms are listed on each product page.
